Cleaning the Neighborhood

PictureWANT Block Club: Earth Day Clean & Green
Mission: Continue the historic mission of the Edgewater Community Council's committee: Edgewater Beautiful

This  will involve all of those activities necessary to keep Edgewater clean, and recruiting the necessary community participation and resources to accomplish it, and will:
a) Work with Streets and Sanitation  for the Clean & Green Spring and Fall events.
b) Work with the various block clubs & schools to support and encourage their local cleanup efforts
c) Work with the Chambers of Commerce, the Development Corporations, and the Special Services Areas (SSAs) in their efforts to clean the commercial districts.
d) Coordinate with the EESP Waste Initiative Committee (2019 --->)

Activities
Earth Day: EESP is a lead collaborative partner, with the 48th Ward, Sen Steans office and Loyola, on the annual Earth Day Clean & Green events in Edgewater.

Clearing Alleys of Litter, Weeds, & Weed Trees:  With the support of the Dept of Streets & Sanitation there are regular walkabouts throughout Edgewater.  Focus is mainly on the CTA embankment alleys.

Partnering with Loyola student scientists, EESP sponsored a number of surveys that have provided the community, businesses and public officials information on where resources should be focused and improvements made.  e.g. Survey of mid level building recycling; audit of trees & their health on major streets; survey of cleaning programs at fast food outlet
