Hello EEC friends, community members, and environmental stewards. Below in this message you will find the 2/9 agenda with associated materials, community connections, save the dates, and in case you missed it.

On Wednesday, we'll be hearing about many exciting efforts we are undertaking. From organizing around 2-stroke engines and bikeways, to indigenous art, and composting. We'll also hear updated on legislation EEC supports: the Urban Forestry Advisory Board and Water for All.

We look forward to seeing you soon!

Community Connections

Loyola's School of Environmental Sustainability 2022 Climate Change Conference
The Intersection of Climate Change, Human Health, and Justice
March 14 – 18, 2022Climate change has direct impacts on human health through climate-induced food and water insecurities, displacement, and pollution. We must consider that the impacts are not equally distributed among people of varying race, gender, and income. Join us virtually during the week of March 14 – 18, 2022 to explore these issues with science experts, front line advocates, and Illinois legislators who are addressing the intersection of climate change, human health, and justice.

Appoint an Urban Forestry Advisory Board
Last June, the Urban Forestry Advisory Board Ordinance (UFAB) passed unanimously through City Council, marking an important step towards bringing together community voices, science, best practices, and the power of City leadership to advise on plans, processes, and ordinance proposals that will affect the urban canopy for the next fifty years. The passage of UFAB was only the first step. Development and infrastructure improvements, as recently seen in West Lakeview and Andersonville, continue to happen all across the city and threaten hundreds of healthy, mature trees unless action is taken to finally appoint and empower this board. It's time for the Chicago City Council to follow through on their passage of UFAB and appoint members to the Board.
