After being closed in 2020, with diligent advocacy & support from EEC, the Peterson Garden Project (PGP), Loyola, the Edgewater Chamber of Commerce, Edgewater Neighbors North Block Club and the 48th Ward Office, Edgewater's largest community garden, Vedgewater, is reopening this year!
EEC has joined PGP as a community partner and will be working on exciting new projects in the space this year and into the future. We have committed to partner with Loyola, PGP, and the 48th Ward in rebuilding and re-opening Vedgewater, involving the community in soliciting funds for re-building and water costs in coordination with PGP’s fundraising efforts, and to be a resource and partner for community involvement in the garden, and partner in environmental programming.
Some ideas we have are about informational signage, community tables for discussions & education, communal plots for a commons that grows food, education and community. Also, experiments with sustainable planting, indigenous planting, composting, permaculture, bioremediation, seed keeping & composting with wider volunteer engagement with our community & Loyola students.
Please reach out and connect with EEC to get involved with these!
